When in Rome do as the Romans do! (E)

Have you been travelling this year? How was it? Did you have some strange encounters or did you realize that what seems perfectly normal in Britain might be frowned upon somewhere else?
Don't worry, you're not the first and certainly not the last person to drop a brick. Just remember the following tips and you'll be safe on your next holiday!

  • Paris may be the most romantic city in the world but when in France, do not attempt to kiss on a level crossing. It is forbidden in the land of baguette and vin rouge!

  • Who doesn't remember the Village People and the hunk with the moustache? Well, if you have one and happen to be in the sunny state of California I suggest you don't kiss a woman - it is not allowed!

  • Brits love their pubs, their chips and...their Queen! You were rushing and affixed the stamp upside down on your postcard? No, no, no! A contravention on the green Island!

  • Everyone knows that Singapore has one of the toughest laws in the world. Maybe just the thought of this makes your bladder go weak and you need to go to the loo frequently. Don't forget to flush though - it'll cost you 400 £ if you don't!

  • Talking about peeing, if you're driving on a public road in Britain and really cannot hold it in much longer you are allowed to relief yourself. Just make sure you pee in the direction of the back wheel and to keep your right hand on your vehicle.

  • In Britain women are not allowed to eat chocolate on public transport!

  • Going to Thailand next year? Just make sure you don't step on a bank note - not even by mistake. Images of the king are sacret and you could end up in prison. You don't want that, do you!

  • You finally got to Alaska for your photoshooting! For days you've been strolling through the forest in search of the big brown bear just to find he's having his afternoon nap. Do not attempt to wake him though! In Alaska it is forbidden to wake a sleeping bear.

100 US$ (E)

Yesterday I went to the Thomson Holiday office. When I booked our holiday to Thassos there some weeks ago the woman from the travel agency urged me to change some Pounds to Euros. "We have the best deals in the city."she smiled.
"Well, I still have lots of Euros." I replied. "I frequently travel abroad."
"Well, are you sure? You will not get a better exchange rate, trust me.
"Thanks, but I am quite sure I am fine."

The next day my husband gave me a 100 US$ note. "Exchange that for Euros." he said. I did not want to see the woman again so I asked him if he could go there. I waited in the car. Instead of Euros he came back with the same 100 US$ note.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Well, they say you have to change the Dollar first to Pounds and then they will change the Pounds to Euros."

"What is the point? We don't need Pounds. We need Euros."

"I know. I told her that. She insisted that we have to change it to Pounds first."

Well, there is no logic to this, therefore we will take our 100 bucks and change it in Greece. After all you always get the better rate when you're there.
